May the Force Be with You, Without These

If you’re not aware of the pun, May the 4th be with you, we don’t quite know where you have been hiding for the last three decades.

May the 4th has been the dedicated International Star Wars day since 1979. Rumour has it, the pun first came around because of The London Evening Times making reference to the first day Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the UK came into office on the 4th of May.

Comically stating ‘May the force be with you, congratulations.’

We don’t think Star Wars fans would agree with the association of their beloved film series with the former PM; it doesn’t quite fit with George Lucas’ genius or futuristic ideas of space travel.

As a promo product company, we cannot help but laugh at the Star Wars merchandise that has cropped up over the years. Merchandise brings out the weird and the wonderful in everyone, showing just how dedicated fans can be. Star Wars is without exception; we’d even go as far as to say that they set the standards.

We’ve put together the most interesting (worst) Star Wars merchandise:

C-3PO Tape Dispenser

Every now and again someone does something outrageous; it becomes a renowned success and money from it. We think this is how this tape dispenser was made. Somewhere out there, in a galaxy far away, there is a person laughing every time they receive money for this product. We’re extremely surprised that people would invest in dispensing tape from between the legs of the most irritating character in Star Wars.

Wampa Rug

We are familiar with the creepy bear rug that looks like it’s going to slither down and consume you, but what about a Wampa rug with teeth bearing back at you? The character only made one appearance in the series, so we don’t quite know why this merchandise exists. It’s not scary, and it’s not something you would show to your friends when they come round to your house. Unless it’s a Star Wars themed party and your testing their knowledge.

Slave Leia Perfume

Princess Leia, our beloved Carrie Fisher, may she rest in peace. May she never be remembered as Slave Leia. The only thing worse than that would be framing the image and presenting it as perfume packaging…

This definitely makes you take a step back and reconsider what taste is.

Jar Jar Binks Candy Tongue

Next on the list of ‘why’s’: Candy from Jar Jar Binks’ mouth. If you can’t remember this character, you may have mentally blocked them because the character was that irritating. We wouldn’t blame you either. So why did someone think it would be a good idea to dispense tongue-shaped candy from Jar Jar Bink’s mouth? The thought of it makes us feel nauseous.

Bantha Pet Costume

Do what you want to yourself when it comes to dressing as Star Wars characters, throw on your bathrobe to be a Jedi or wear your hair in buns next to your ears. Don’t bring the dog into it; trust us, your dog is cute enough on its own. It’s not a good idea to humiliate your dog for the sake of fandom.
